From the press
from the Volkskrant A widow to Real Life, between a bathtub, a bed and a toilet. I a very small typical Amsterdam ground floor apartment, baby Bram's diaper is being changed by his dad. Next to them, on the same bed where the 3 months baby is being changed sits mom Ruth Bachrach and speaks with the journalists. This project is a part of the Triple X festival; typical for this festival which breaks the barriers between the different art forms, is not afraid of hard, shocking, images. During the whole period of the festival the public is welcome to have a sit and watch Ruth Bachrach's perfect life. During the nine days of the festival Real Life will take it's course in the back half of the apartment, situated across the street from the festival grounds. Separated from the rear of the apartment by a room size window, is arranged as an exhibition space, chairs are placed for the public to have a sit and watch through the glass wall Bachrach's Real Life taking it's course. In this small back space, between bed, bathtub, toilet and the tiny kitchenette she will do what she always does: read, write, prepare a new project, take care of baby Bram, entertain friends. "As naked and as full as possible", this is how Bachrach wants to share her life with the public. No, she will not feel caged. This project is not about being caged, it is about the relation between art and life. Two other images will be shown, two films which Bachrach filmed: one shows Bachrach's mother and two aunts, bathing together. The second is a hard amateur porn-video, which Bachrach has filmed with strangers who answered to an add she placed in the local news paper. "This is a one disgusting film" she exclaims, "it is not made aesthetic, they don't enjoy themselves, the performers are lost in the huge space, and so am I. This makes it shocking." The artist says then: "When I watch this video I think: 'Ruth, is this necessary?' Apparently it is. The raw, physic images of Bachrach seem well placed in this festival, where theatre and visual art meet each other, and where the border between what "Real" is and what is "Staged and Designed" is questioned. and here too https://www.groene.nl/artikel/dit-ben-ik-niet |
